NEWS FLUSHING, NY, August 12, 2009 - Helios Energy Systems, which provides design, sales and installation services to home and building owners throughout the New York City tri-state metropolitan area, is working to make building owners aware that its solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential and commercial buildings qualify for Federal energy tax credits. Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Federal "Stimulus" bill) signed into law early this year, homeowners and businesses that install solar PV systems to generate electricity used in their buildings can qualify for Federal tax credits up to 30% of the total installed cost. Buildings utilizing "free" renewable solar energy reduce their electric consumption and related utility bills while demonstrating environmental responsibility and "carbon footprint" reduction. "The Federal incentive includes 30% of everything required to add solar electric power to the residence - solar panels, mounting structures, labor, conduit piping and wiring to connect the system to the home's electrical systems," said Thomas Chen, President of Helios Energy Systems. Thomas Chen is also the President and founder of Crystal Window & Door Systems, the parent company of Helios. "This incentive isn't only for owners of private homes. Commercial business facilities can take advantage of this tax credit as well. Condo and co-op properties are also eligible for the tax credit, which is allocated on a pro rata basis to each unit owner." In addition to Federal tax credits, property owners throughout the tri-state metropolitan area may be eligible for state incentives. It is estimated that New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) program incentives, combined with the Federal tax credits, can reduce the installed cost of a PV system in New York by as much as 75%. For specific projects throughout the region, Helios can assist building owners in checking with their particular state energy agencies. Federal tax credits are available for systems placed into service before December 31, 2016 that generate electricity and meet all applicable fire and electrical code requirements. Helios Energy Systems components are sourced from leading manufacturers of solar products, including SMA Solar Technology and ET Solar, and are installed in New York by NYSERDA qualified (or in other states, appropriately certified) installation contractors and licensed electricians. "We are seeing quite a bit of interest in PV systems from owners of private homes, commercial businesses, non-profits, community centers and office buildings as they find out how they can take advantage of this great environmental and economic incentive," said Andrew Lai, Manager of Helios Energy Systems. "Besides helping the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, they can really make an impact on their electric bills with renewable solar power generation and get tax credits for it." Homeowners and businesses must provide documentation on costs to purchase and install solar PV systems and use appropriate IRS forms when filing tax returns to claim the Federal tax credit. Individual states may also have additional documentation requirements. As with any tax related matter, consumers should seek the advice of tax accounting professionals. FLUSHING, NY, January 12, 2009 - Crystal Window & Door Systems, the award-winning manufacturer of vinyl and aluminum windows and high-end fenestration systems, is proud to announce the launch of its newest subsidiary, Helios Energy Systems. Named after the Greek mythological god of the sun, the new firm will focus on the solar generation of electric power through the use of photovoltaic (PV) technology. Helios will provide residential, commercial, multi-family and institutional building owners and distributors of PV technology with environmentally friendly solar power systems to lower electric operating costs, reduce power plant carbon dioxide emissions, assist with building LEED or NAHB certifications, and improve the environment. Helios Energy Systems joins the growing family of Crystal Window subsidiaries that are currently involved with aluminum extrusion, fencing, fiberglass doors and other building products. "We see a very bright future for our new solar power subsidiary," said Thomas Chen, president of Helios and president and founder of Crystal Windows. "This 'green' technology is still in the early stages of market development. However, by investing resources now into a new enterprise, we assure ourselves of growth and success, as well as providing energy and environmental benefits as the market develops and expands." Initially, Helios Energy Systems will provide design, sales and installation services to home and building owners as well as act as a wholesale distributor of solar PV power systems. In the future, the firm plans to become a manufacturer of solar panel modules as well as associated racks and mounting systems. Ultimately, the firm envisions the ability to produce not only independent stand alone solar modules, but to incorporate them into building facade elements to create Building Integrated Photovoltaic or BIPV panels. The company will also work with building owners and various government agencies to capture available energy credits and tax benefits for its projects. Helios Energy Systems is headquartered at its parent company's main offices in Queens, NY. The solar energy firm will focus in the near term on serving the New York City tri-state metropolitan area, where substantial growth opportunities exist, and in the long-term serving the national market.
